Last month, the joint meeting of the 5th International Symposium of Flexible & Stretchable Electronics and the 5th International Workshop on Soft Machines and Mechanics (ISFSE-IWSMM 2019) was held successfully at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). The meeting was unprecedented in its attendance, with over 400 scholars and students from universities and institutions in mainland China, Canada, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the United States attending the meeting. More than 100 speakers shared their research in fields including flexible electronics, soft matter mechanics, and material processing. The meeting was well received by all participants.
SUSTech worked with the State Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) playing key roles in ISFSE-IWSMM 2019.
This year’s meeting was chaired by Professor Zhonglin Wang, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Zhigang Suo, member of the US National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Sciences, and Professor Han Ding, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. MSE Associate Professor Chuanfei Guo and MAE Professor Wei Hong served as executive chairs. Vice President Chun Lu welcomed all attendees of the meeting as part of the opening ceremony.
This meeting has not only built an international platform for researchers in related fields to discuss and exchange ideas, but also enhanced the domestic and international visibility of SUSTech, paving its way towards the goal of a top research university in the world.
