Last month, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed Professor Suo Zhigang to campus. He gave an intriguing lecture on “Hydrogel Adhesion: A Synergy of Mechanics, Chemistry and Topology.”
Professor Suo Zhigang is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences, and also a member of the US National Academy of Engineering. He is an Allen E. and Marilyn M. Puckett Professor of Mechanics and Materials at Harvard University. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of materials and structures, generating pioneering research in many fields of mechanics and materials science.
Professor Suo Zhigang introduced his research group’s work of hydrogel, and elaborated the synergistic effect of polymer chemistry, dissipative mechanism and topological structure on the strong bonding of hydrogel. The lecture also vividly combined basic research and practical applications of bonded hydrogel.
He took many questions from the enthusiastic audience of SUSTech students and faculty members at the end of the lecture.
